LEAD NEWS : TWO DAYS KOLKATA VISIT WILL FURTHER SOLIDIFY THE BILATERAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES , SAYS HAYMANDOYAL DILLUM, HIGH COMMISSIONER OF MAURITIUS IN INDIA

KOLKATA, 1 SEPTEMBER 2024:

The two days visit to Kolkata will further strengthen the bilateral relationships between India and Mauritius, said Haymandoyal Dillum , high commissioner of Mauritius in New Delhi.

“  Since arriving in the cultural capital of India yesterday, I have been meeting people from various sectors and I can say that the people of Kolkata have won my heart. Within a week I will be coming back here again to participate in the upcoming Roadshow of Mauritius Tourism Board in Kolkata next week,” said Mr. Haymandoyal Dillum.

Bharat Chamber of Commerce is a 125 years old prominent organization and in the meeting emphasis has been given to people to people connect. Mauritius  welcomes all prospective investors in the country from this part of the world in the sectors like tourism, IT, pharmaceutical, infrastructure, energy, power, logistics and other innovative futuristic sectors.

Talking to The Travel and Tourism Times, Mr. Haymandoyal Dillum has informed that in the next month he is planning to hold an investors meet with all the chambers of commerce.  He has also welcomed the  chambers to visit Mauritius and have a meeting with the Economic Development Board.

Relationship between India and Mauritius is at an all time high with both Prime Minister of India,  Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth having an excellent relationship with each other. And the bond has further tightened after PM Pravind Jugnauth’s visit to India in June this year. Later India’s external affairs minister S. Jaishankar has also visited Mauritius.

“With a population of 1.3 million, Mauritius is the gateway to Africa and provides immense scope to Indian multinational companies. We have a free trade agreement with many countries and it will be a win- win opportunity  for both the prospective investor and Mauritius government ,”he added.

Mr. Haymandoyal Dillum further said that he is excited after visiting Kolkata – the land of Swami Vivekananda and Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore. “ Already the city has won my heart and the city has deep roots with Mauritius as long back many people from here settled there and I am sure my Kolkata visit will further boost the Indo – Mauritius bilateral ties,” Mr. Dillum said.

Even many people from Bihar have settled there long back and presently a Bhojpuri Kabi Sammelan is going on at Mauritius, a country where there is a large number of Bhojpuri speaking people.

“ We have already successfully organized road shows in Chennai and Hyderabad. Kolkata is our next destination for Mauritius Tourism Board RoadShow. Air Mauritius has launched its flight from Chennai recently and both the inbound and outbound flights are packed up with passengers. Almost every week we are getting requests from nationals of both countries for visiting each other’s nation.  Tourists  of Mauritius are coming to Ayodhya, Haridwar, Buddhist destinations, Kolkata and several other parts of India,”he said.

Mr. Hinglaj Dan Ratnoo, assistant director of Rajasthan  Information and cultural and tourism office in Kolkata, who is the great grandson of Swami Krishnandadji, popularly known as the father of Mauritius was also present on the occasion.

He has presented Mr. Dillum a turban and his wife a shawl. “ It is my great pleasure to welcome such a person in Kolkata,’said Mr. Hinglaj Dan Ratnoo.

During the occasion, ‘Karma The Winner’, a popular  book written by Mr. Rajendra Khandelwal  , eminent  entrepreneur, philanthropist and social worker  of Kolkata were presented to all the dignitaries today.

The Mauritius high commissioner came to Kolkata yesterday on a two days official visit to the city of joy accompanied by  his wife, Smt. Bharti Dillum. Yesterday he held a meeting with the  top officials and members of the Bharat Chambers of Commerce in Kolkata and also took part in a lunch  hosted by 40 th year celebrations of  city based Dhanwantary Group in which prominent citizens were present.

“ We are glad to host a lunch at Kolkata today in honour of the visit of Mauritius High Commissioner and his wife to Kolakta and hope that he will take back a very positive note in his mind during his two days visit to Kolkata. India enjoys  a deep cultural and business relationship with  Mauritius,” said Mr. Rajendra Khandelwal.

Mr. Rajendra Khandelwal, MD of Dhanwantary Group, his son, Ravindra Khandelwal, his wife and daughter in law along with  a host of  eminent members of the Marwari community  of Kolkata were present in the city hotel today.
