TOURISM AUTHORITY OF THAILAND ORGANISES ‘AMAZING NEW CHAPTERS’ DESTINATION PRESENTATION AND NETWORKNG LUNCH AT OBEROI GRAND KOLKATA ON 12 JANUARY 2023

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has organised ‘Amazing New Chapters’ destination presentation and networking lunch at Oberoi Grand Hotel in Kolkata on 12 January 2023.

The deputy consul general of Royale Thai Embassy in Kolkata, Mr. Piyapan Atipatya will be present.

The Deputy Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand ( New Delhi), new Director of TAT, who will take charge from February will also be present, sources said.

“The event will start with a B-B table top session with our hotel and airline partners followed by a destination update and networking Thai lunch,” informed  Sohina Malik, marketing representative ( North and east India)  of TAT, New Delhi.

Mr. Anil Punjabi, Chairman ( East) of Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) and Mr. Manav Soni, Chairman ( East) of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) will also be present.

According to World Travel and Tourism Council report,  tourism contributes to 17 percent of national GDP of Thailand , while the contribution of tourism in the global GDP is merely  10 percent.

The year 2019 has been an annus mirrabilis for Thailand tourism industry as it has witnessed a whopping  24.85 percent passenger growth and 27.45 percent revenue growth , by earning a total  Thai Bhat 86,372.01 from Indian tourists and last year there has been an all time record footfall of 1,995,516 Indians.

Eastern India, especially the City of Joy contributes about 30 percent of the total tourists from India to Thailand.

Meanwhile Thai Airways have restarted its services from Kolkata to Bangkok from 1 January this year.

Thailand has always been a preferred destinations for tourists from this part of the country for leisure, wedding, golf, MICE etc .  A number of super hit Bolywood movies have also been shoot in exotic locations of Thailand – Kaho Na Pyar Hai, Housefull 2, Ready, Baghi , Student of the Year, Bar Bar Delho, Veere Di Wedding etc in recent years.

Thailand tourism is back on track  in recent months with a bang after a hiatus of almost two years. The country has reached its international arrival target on 22 December 2022 and PM General Prayut Chan-o-cha celebrated the arrival of the 10 million passenger at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. Few days ago, Thailand has also welcomed the first group of Chinese tourists post pandemic.
