CM CONRAD SANGMA INAUGURATES THE FIRST EVER FIVE STAR HOTEL IN THE STATE : VIVANTA MEGHALAYA AT SHILLONG

BY DEBAJYOTI CHAKRABORTY

KOLKATA , 15 OCTOBER

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the first ever five star hotel in the state  on Friday, the Vivanta Meghalaya at Shillong.

The Meghalaya Tourism  Development Corporation (MTDC) is the owner of the property and has leased it  out for a period of 33 years on a Private Public Partnership (PPP) mode to the Indian Hotel Company Limited (IHCL).

Since 1986, the project has been unfinished and chief minister Conrad Sangma thanked all the concerned officials for making the dream of having a five star property in Meghalaya come true.

The Vivanta Meghalaya has 101 keys (87 rooms and 14 suites)  and is spread over an area of 8800 square metres.  Besides speciality restaurants, coffee shops, bars, banquet halls and retail spaces.

The chief minister Conrad Sangma further added that in the coming days such luxury hotels and five star properties will come up in Meghalaya.

The Courtyard by the Marriot Group is also coming up in Shillong very soon and will boost value tourism in the north eastern state.

The state government is now focussing Meghalaya as the most preferred destination of ecotourism in the country and is taking several steps including upgrading the infrastructure.

The hotel has been handed over to IHCL and will soon open for guests, the CM added.

ABOUT SHILLONG AND VIVANTA MEGHALAYA :

Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya (which quite literally means ‘Abode of the Clouds’) is picture-postcard pretty. Enveloped by gardens and parks, surrounded by forests, awash in cascading waterfalls, and blessed with the gifts of nature and wonderful weather, Shillong is one of the most pristine and unspoilt destinations in the country. Punctuated by white church spires, meandering pathways and eclectic bazaars, and home to friendly and creative locals, Shillong is the pit stop to the best and the brightest of Meghalaya. It is also the gateway to some of India’s finest trekking trails, glamping destinations, nature walks and music festivals.

Vivanta Meghalaya, Shillong, puts visitors in the heart of all the action. As the first bona fide luxury establishment in the music capital of the country, Vivanta Meghalaya Shillong promises  the best of everything and more.

Our 87 thoughtfully designed rooms and 14 spacious suites will ensconce the travellers in comfort, whether they are in town to revel in some of the most rousing rock shows in the country or for business or to experience Cherry Blossom trees in full bloom or to explore the pine-scented environs.

Environs are reflected in the choice of materials that have been liberally used across the Hotel like timber and Cherra stone (that gives Cherrapunji its name).

The pine forests of the region are echoed in the hotels vertical linear elements while Meghalaya’s rolling hills are reflected in the central atrium’s screen design. A glass pyramid crowns the atrium creating a window to misty mornings and starry, starry nights.

The plush carpets that connect the rooms evoke a walk across the green hills of Shillong. The cloudy skies of Meghalaya, on the other hand, are mirrored in the water drop swirls of the carpets in the ballroom and the cloud-shaped decorative lights that sparkle like stars in the sky, adding an ethereal touch.

The Vivanta vibe also comes alive in Mynt, the all-day restaurant, which celebrates the spices and flavours of the North East, while also serving up popular classics and global favourites , calling  them the Greatest Hits since it is  a city that takes its music very seriously.

Bookings of the hotel will start soon.
