A major milestone in the region’s infrastructure is the Nashipur Rail Bridge. This 315-meter-long open web girder-type railway bridge, spanning three sections across the Bhagirathi River, now connects the Murshidabad-Azimganj section. For years, this vital project has been a long-standing demand of the people, and today, it stands as a symbol of progress and unity, reducing travel time and boosting both passenger and freight services across the river.
The Nashipur Rail Bridge significantly enhances connectivity between Murshidabad and Azimganj, acting as a crucial link across the Bhagirathi River. This bridge reduces travel time, facilitates easier access to markets, and boosts trade in the region. It also opens up new routes for passenger and freight services, ensuring economic growth and development for the entire region.
As a direct outcome of this infrastructure upgrade, new train services between Azimganj and Cossimbazar (via Murshidabad) and Krishnanagar & Azimganj (via Murshidabad) will be flagged off tomorrow. The Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, will officiate the ceremony via video conference at 12:00 hrs.
The newly introduced services will open new avenues of connectivity and offer significant improvements in daily commutes, facilitating quicker and more reliable transportation across West Bengal.
Details of Inaugural Trains:
Train No. 03024: Azimganj (AZ) to Cossimbazar (CSZ) – Inaugural MEMU Passenger Train
Train No. 03023: Krishnanagar (KNJ) to Azimganj (AZ) – Conventional Passenger Train
These trains are set to create a positive impact on travel, making intercity and regional travel more accessible and convenient for thousands of passengers.
Regular Train Services from 04 October 2024:
From 4 October 2024, regular MEMU services will be operated as follows:
Azimganj–Cossimbazar–Azimganj: Three pairs of MEMU passenger trains will run daily.
Azimganj–Krishnanagar–Azimganj: One pair of MEMU passenger trains will run daily.
These regular services will cater to the growing demand for faster and more efficient transport, benefiting students, workers, traders, and local residents by providing better access to essential services and opportunities.
With the Nashipur Rail Bridge and new train services, the Ministry of Railways continues to show its commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the lives of people in West Bengal. This project will not only improve regional connectivity but also foster socio-economic growth, fulfilling the aspirations of the people and propelling the region toward progress
